Finding Me

Calligraphy is both a process of self-dialogue and a way of making it visible through brush and ink.

This section centers on large-character calligraphy, with works that far exceed the scale of Wang’s previous practice—some even taller than her own body, as if she were “concealed behind” them. Writing here is no longer guided by intuition alone, but requires careful planning and precise execution, constructing the direction and rhythm of each stroke.

Scale becomes a form of challenge. Writing transforms into a dynamic bodily language, where viewers can sense the artist’s movement, pace, and rhythm within the brushwork—like a performance carried out alone.

The texts often reflect Wang’s thoughts on her creative journey, as well as words of self-encouragement. As extensions of emotion and thought, these phrases are called forth through writing and brought into the viewer’s presence.

Also on view is Yuzzy, a series of calligraphic sculptures that extend writing into three-dimensional space. Here, lines become physical forms, and negative space becomes gaps one can move through. Viewers are invited to enter the work from multiple perspectives, encountering a new spatial dimension of calligraphy.
